Welcome to the latest edition of Tell Me About It: A Biz Babe Interview Series! This month we are hearing from Andi Smiles, small business financial consultant, recovering financial hot mess (you’ve gotta live it to teach it!!) and creator of the BFF Course, which helps the self-employed take control of their finances!

This series is meant to be an inside look at other babes who are leading incredible lives, to serve as a source of information and inspiration for you to live your dream life! Let’s get after it!

What’s your company / job / “who” you work as?
small business financial consultant and certified professional coach

Your career purpose, in three words:
heal money wounds

What are you most excited about right now?
In my business, it has been developing my own framework for healing money wounds, which draws on my coaching background and dives deep into the emotional side of money in our business.

Personally, I’ve really pumped on going keto and rediscovering a love of food after being on a very restricted diet for years for my chronic health issues.

What were some of the biggest obstacles you faced in the past year?
The biggest challenge I’ve had has been being honest with myself about the shifts I want to make in my business and moving past the fear of making these shifts. Opening myself up to my true passions and being willing to shift towards the unknown, instead of playing it safe, has been hard and also liberating.

List the top habits that keep you feeling like you can take on the world:
Going to boxing or pilates classes, starting the day with at least an hour of me time, letting myself be done with work early if I’m not feeling it, and weekly meetings with the collective incubator that I’m a part of (Turtle Tank).

Any words of encouragement for someone trying to forge their own path?
Show up authentically and don’t hide yourself or your identity because you don’t fit into the mold. Your value isn’t based on how much you produce or how many hours you work. Reframe success and forget about always seeking out “more”- instead root into your desires.

It’s time to dance, and you’re the DJ. What music are you playing?
Magic Dance by David Bowie (yes, from the Labyrinth soundtrack), anything from the 90’s and ABBA.

What book(s) changed how you think about work + biz most?
Emotional Currency by Kate Levinson. This book completely changed my money life, my business model, and sparked my interest in the emotional healing side of money.

If I could collab with anyone right now, it would be…
David Bowie- and by collab I mean just stare reverently at him

When I need to hit the “reset” button on my life, I…
stop working!!!

I can’t start my day without…
a fatty non-caffeinated tea with lots of yummy spices in it.

I feel the most alive when I…
travel, perform on stage (I’m also a performance artist), surrender to my path without fear or worry.

And lastly: what’s your biggest win this month? Brag about yourself!
Having a bunch of students from my paid courses and free live show tell me how much my work has impacted them and the very real, tangible changes they’ve made to their business finances.
